Born in Ontario, Canada, John Kenneth Galbraith studied at Ontario Agricultural College, the University of California, and Cambridge University. From 1943 until 1948, he was an editor at Fortune magazine. Galbraith taught at Harvard University from 1945 until 1975, except when he served as U.S. ambassador to India (1961­63). Galbraith was also an adviser to presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. In addition, he has written several books: American Capitalism: The Concept of Countervailing Power (1952), The Affluent Society (1958), The New Industrial State (1967), The Age of Uncertainty (1977), A History of Economics (1987), and The Good Society: The Humane Agenda (1996).
